Nano News [Sep. 15th, 2009|10:38 pm]
The Milwaukee Area Nanoers

[Tags|, , , , ]

I finally got around to checking the forums, and found that some pre-Nano planning sessions are already being set up! Also, we've gone semi-official around here, with co-mod [info]zhie becoming the local ML.

So who's in for this year? What are you guys planning (if anything yet)?

This year I'm changing tactics by using an outline of sorts, and my personal goal is a mere 10,000. I'll probably need some prodding to update my wordcount meter though (my total was more like 4 or maybe 5 thousand, but I only updated once, in the first week). Even though some really nice ideas came out of my last year's mini-nano, it was all so scattered and rushed that very little of it was workable, so for 2009 I'd like to end up with something a bit more practical. Hence the outline.

There's two pre-Nano meet-up sessions being planned so far, an East side one, and a South side one.

My computer's acting up right now but I'll try to post more info later.  (And feel free to post regarding any meet-ups, introducing yourselves, plans for this year's Nano, etc.)

What are people's thoughts about a gathering on Sunday the 1st to get some heavy duty editing done? Contemplations of either Borders bookstore cafe in Greendale or...? It seems Borders was good to us for nanowrimo.

was there a meeting yesterday? [Aug. 14th, 2008|07:06 am]

[mood |sicksick]

'cause if there was, I was obviously not there

I got home from my meeting sometime between 3 and 4, took a nap... and woke up at 4am.

I'm at the end of fighting a nasty sinus infection, and apparently needed more than my usual 4 to 6 hours of sleep yesterday.

And if there wasn't a meeting... never mind.

Next EE Meeting: Further Info [Jul. 16th, 2008|05:57 am]

Good news, I've heard from Epros, and she will be able to join us on the 20th. This means that everyone is able to come!

We will be meeting Sunday, July 20th (that's this coming Sunday) in the Borders cafe at approximately 5 p.m. I have not yet reserved a table (nor has Zhie as far as I know) so if it is busy we may decide to move somewhere else. With no reservations, whoever makes it there first is in charge of trying to snag a table for us.

I think we are all familiar with Borders but if there is any question about the address I've made a post with information on all of our regular public meeting places.  This will save time for us trying to find addresses in the future.  I think you all have my cell phone number, feel free to text me with any updates regarding the meeting.

Don't Forget to Bring:
--contact information
--writing sample
--pen and paper/laptop

I look forward to seeing you all this weekend!

Erudite Exchange Summer Meeting: Sunday, July 20th [Jul. 12th, 2008|02:45 pm]
The Milwaukee Area Nanoers

[Tags|, , ]

Hello all.  Apologies for my abscence as a number of life situations kept me away from my internet duties.  Thanks to Zhie though, for keeping things afloat.

It looks like we finally have a meeting date for what may be the last summer meeting that everyone can attend this year.  Jake has to work but he will be joining us in the late afternoon evening.  Epros will hopefully be joining us as well, everybody keep your fingers crossed that her boss lets her off!  Everybody else will definitely be there!  Where, exactly? Well that hasn't been decided yet, so let me know if you have any suggestions.

Some suggestions:
--let's all bring our schedules so that we can see if it's possible to hold one more meeting before Annie and Epros leave, and so that those of us staying behind can figure out a few post-summer, pre-nano dates.
--have contact info or business cards so that we can do another phone/e-mail exchange.
--to begin preparations for the summer, let's each bring some writing.  Say one page or 500 words or so, either a short short or a fairly stand-alone bit from something longers.  Please consider that it'll be for reading aloud or passing out, and if we're in a public place it may not be appropriate to read certain violent or sexually themed work.  Otherwise, anything goes.
--I haven't spoken to Zhie about this lately, but I believe she was going to come up with some prompts for us to work on, so plan on bringing your writing instruments of choice.

Hope everybody is having a great summer, and I'll see you on the 20th!

April Fools! [Apr. 7th, 2008|04:32 am]
The Milwaukee Area Nanoers

[Tags|, , , , ]

Alright guys, who's in for April Fools? The site seems pretty bare bones but once you log into the forums it really opens up. So far I've only seen Zhie and myself over there.

zhie 's word goal is 50K, like NaNo, with the additional challenge of doing all of the shortfic_500 prompts. She's already posted three shortfics, which you can find over at her journal or at the community.

Also, congratulations to Zhie for being the only one of us to attempt EdMo, and also I'm pretty sure she attained her goal, or at least came close to it! Care to give us an hour count, Zhie?

My AF wordcount goal is 5/6K, with various major and minor additional goals. Guess I'd better start writing!

By the by, I've completed my first AF goal of writing at least one drabble. Those on my flist (and Corb filter) can find it here

I fail.  I can't finish.  I am still hoping I will be able to get to 15, 000 words by Friday, but with school this week, I don't even know if I can do that.  But I know some of you have finished, so congrats!  And for those still working towards it---Good luck!

When's the "Hooray! It's Finally Over Party?"

Okay, Annie will now stop using nano to procrastinate on her group presenation because other people's grades are also at stake here.
